Testimony: "I Knew I was Home"
By "Ron"
I rededicated my life to the Lord earlier this year and was called into the youth ministries soon afterwards. As I started to hear about this mission trip, I prayed to the Lord, asking if I should go or not. I had doubts. You know, "I'm new at this. I don't deserve it." But, that was just the enemy's voice. The Lord showed me that if I were to grow in him and fall into servanthood that I would have to work at it, so I decided to go.
The money was a hard factor. Our youth pastor recommended sending letters to our relatives for help, but I only had three living relatives. As I was walkin to the mailbox to send my three letters, my mom and dad gave me a check for most of the money. They took the letters away from me! I got the rest of the money from fundraisers.
When the plane touched the ground, I knew I was home. We started with VBS and, after a day or two, we started holding youth hang-out nights as well. We grew to love each other so much! We eventually had to drive the herds of children and teens out of the church so we could get sleep and get ready for the next day!
The last night, we had an impacting youth service. We ended up with sixteen salvations, that we know of -- maybe more. As all this was happening, I fell in love with the people more and more. I looked to them as family, true families in Christ.
After our last Sunday morning service, we had to say our goodbyes. It was the saddest moment of my life. There was one young boy that I grew to love tremendously, and after I gave everyone else hugs, I hugged the young boy. He started to cry on my shoulder, and it broke me. I never cried so much in my life. I'm homesick for my new family. I know I'm going back next year!
Thank you, Sun City Missions, for giving me the opportunity to grow and serve!
