Site Spotlight: Managua, Nicaragua
By Frank Magaña (CA)

Nicaragua is the largest country located in the Central American region, but is also the least densely populated. The tropical rainforests along the surrounding slopes contain much biodiversity, and the pristine waters of the lagoon are good for swimming and diving. They have a population of 5.6 million, and 60% of the population is under seventeen years old. About 65% of the adult population can read and write. Spanish is the primary language for about 90% of the people; others speak English or indegenous languages. There are about 6400 people living with HIV/AIDS in Nicaragua. The life expectancies for men and women are 66 years and 70 years, respectively. Underemployment plagues almost half the population, but the "Nicas" are friendly and obliging people, with a matriarchal society.

Criminal Justice or Calling to Ministry?
By Wendy Nester (WV)

We are so blessed to have spent a week in Alaska. We had a great time with VBS and the teen activities in the evening. We have been in contact with some of the Alaskan youth via email. Our youth even sponsored a Thank-You Picnic for our home church. The whole church is very supportive, and we shared our excitement and desire to return during the picnic. Our host church is constructing a new building, and we would like to help in any way we can. My son, who was on the trip with us, has decided not to attend college this semester. He was going to study criminal justice, but he has confirmed a calling he had been ignoring in teen ministry. Praise God!

Is it too early to sign up for next year?

This was a first-time trip for all involved, and we all had a tremendous life-changing time. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity.

Catalog Update
By Christopher Wagner (WA)

After sending our catalog to the printer, we've added yet another trip to our 2007 line up. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was a success in 2006, and we're doing it again. The 2007 trip will take place August 14th through 23rd and is being offered at the same price as before, $695. As always, this price and timeframe does not include airfare or air travel time. For more information, such as minimum age requirements and payment plan options visit the online trip catalog, and click on "Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic."
