Site Spotlight: Nicaragua
Nicaragua is the largest country located in the Central American region, but is also the least densely populated. The tropical rainforests along the sourrounding slopes contain much biodiversity, and the pristine waters of the lagoon are good for swimming and diving. They have a population of 5.6 million, and 60% of the population is under seventeen years old. About 65% of the adult population can read and write. Spanish is the primary language for about 90% of the people; others speak English or indegenous languages. There are about 6400 people living with AIDS/HIV in Nicaragua. The life expectancies for men and women are 66 years and 70 years, respectively. Underemployment plagues almost half the population, but the "Nicas" are friendly and obliging people with a matriarchal society.

Sun City Missions will serve in Nicaragua in August of 2006. For registration information, visit our web site anytime, or call our office during business hours.

From Prisoner to Preacher
"Say your prayers quickly, Grandma. I'm going to kill you."

The woman looked at Paulo and declared, "I rebuke you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ." Paulo began to shake, jammed the revolver into his pocket, and ran. He was the leader of a gang of bank robbers who never ran. This morning the gang stood on the corner and saw an elderly lady with a Bible. Paulo decided to have "fun," but she spoke the name that sends demons fleeing. Paulo went to prison, began attending prison church services, and became saved. Paulo was changed and released early for good behavior. He began sharing his amazing testimony. Now, Paulo is a preacher. He understands the power that frightened him when he accosted the old woman, for he has learned that "greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
